Hybrid Surfboard Technology
Designed by Tom Morey. Made in USA
by Catch Surf.

Tom Morey has pushed softboard technology so far forward he's created a whole new category: the Hybrid Surfboard - real surfboard performance with unmatched float, durability and safety all in one. It's the best ever softboard that surfs like a hardboard.

Hardboard benefits: real performance from true surfboard shapes and designs with a stiff, yet springy stringer system and high-performance fins.

Softboard benefits: insanely easy to paddle and will catch the smallest of waves, maximum durability from beaded poly-pro core and safety from porpoise-like construction.

Thanks Tom. You're the man!

And for all you detail guys and gals, scroll down or click the buttons on the right to get to the good sh*t.

Note: For those that don't know Tom Morey. He is a surf legend, invented the bodyboard, threw the first surf contest, invented the first removable surf fin system and co-developed the first-ever soft surfboard. Tom's been making waves since 1955. Plus, he's just a nice guy. So back off!

CAD & CNC Shaping Technology
We are the first and only hybrid surfboard maker to utilize computer aided design (CAD) and CNC shaping technology. Our CNC machine is similar to those used by the world's leading hardboard shapers and manufacturers.

Typical softboards are molded (pop-out) or hand-cut using simple tools and jigs. This translates into generic shapes, limited performance and design.

Every Catch Surf board is designed using sophisticated CAD software based on time-tested designs, knowledge of materials and rider feedback. Each board is then shaped using our state-of-the-art, custom-made, dual-head, 3-Axis CNC machine. Whew, that was a mouthful!

- CAD & CNC technology allows us to consistently replicate the perfect shape over and over again.

- We can produce designs and shapes that in the past could only be found on hardboards.

- By using CAD and CNC technology, we can improve and tweak our boards on the fly, which means ever-advancing performance and smiles on our rider's faces.

Beaded Poly-Pro (BPP) Core
Catch Surf is the first and only hybrid surfboard maker to use what Tom calls the 'King' of all foams: Beaded Poly-Pro (BPP).

Other softboards use expanded polystyrene (EPS or 'styrofoam') and extruded foams (DOW, EPE, EPP) that lack stiffness, memory and impact resistance, breakdown with time and in the case of extruded foams, absorb water like a sponge.

- BPP is memory foam, making it impact and crush resistant. No wonder the automotive industry uses it inside car bumpers.

- BPP is closed-cell, making it more resistant to water absorption (vs. extruded cores used in other soft surfboards).

- Unlike other foams, BPP does not breakdown with exposure to salt water. This is important, unless you surf in a lake, river or bathtub.

- BPP is also super-lightweight and very buoyant. This makes our boards light and allows them to paddle and catch waves easier than comparable-sized hardboards.

- BPP is recyclable.

Y-Beam Stringer System
Developed to provide ever-last stiffness and perfect flex, our Y-Beam Stringer System permanently fuses the stringer into the board for a whole new twist on surfboard support technology.

Most softboards mold their core around simple wood rods for support. These rods eventually work loose from the foam causing it to lose strength/support, become floppy and then eventually break.

Our stringer system is handmade into the core using wood, fiberglass and epoxy resin (same materials found in expensive hardboards!). This permanently bonds the stringer into the board for an amazingly durable and super-stiff support system.

The Y-Beam Stringer System is based on the structural integrity of I-beam design and the principals of positive-negative tension. If we told you more we would have to kill you.

Top & Bottom Hi-Impact Skin with Performance Rails
Hybrid technology seals the top and bottom of the board with our proprietary high-impact skins to provide extra strength, durability and water resistance.

Our rails are handmade using top-quality Sealed-AirĀ® Foam, a manufacturing process that allows us to enhance performance by shaping to hardboard standards.

- Top and bottom slick skin seals more surface area than traditional softboards, making them more water resistant and longer lasting vs. the competition.

- Top skin requires surf wax just like your hardboard for traditional feel and superior grip. It will not give you a rash like other softboards. And accepts traction pads.

- Our rails are hand-shaped using the same design characteristics as hardboards. Yet they are soft for your safety.

FCS and Bahne Fin Boxes with High-Performance Fins
The Super ONE and Y-Quad come with genuine FCS™ fin boxes specifically designed for our boards to maximize performance and durability. These FCS boxes will accept any aftermarket FCS fin. Boards come standard with FCS fiber-fill hard, performance fins, just like hardboards.

The Swizzle comes with a Bahne & Co. fin box and will accept any aftermarket longboard fin. Swizzle comes standard with Bahne 8” high-performance fin.

Afterburner Rear Rails
The Afterburner Rear Rail is a throwback to Tom's early bodyboard designs. He originally developed the rails to hold a line without the use of fins. And now that same principle is pushing performance forward on our boards. For decades (since the early 60's), Tom has explored this unique design feature on surfboards. And he nailed it.

Afterburner Rear Rails are a signature Tom Morey feature and found only on Surfboards by Y™.

- Improved turning performance by narrowing the width of bottom tail portion of the board. Makes it easier to go rail-to-rail.

- Afterburner rails allow tail to dig into wave without needing foil for the tail, which removes foam. And we all know, more foam = more float.

- Afterburner rails have sharp bottom and top edges that allow water to exit out back of board without drag. This enhances speed and improves turning response.

- Flat side surface of Afterburner rails provide extra hold and drive down the line without drag of extra fins.

Made in USA by Surfers
All our boards are made in the USA. Not some, one or partly assembled/finished just to claim it, but all. And our entire company surfs. Tom Morey surfs. Our master shaper and production staff surfs. Our entire sales, art and marketing team surfs. Even our founder and president surfs. Our factory is located in San Clemente, California, USA.
