Pix from the swell

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

The pix have been flooding in from the big NW swell that rolled in last week and here’s a couple of the gems we received. How’s this macker barrel Parker Mendenhall’s pulling into south of the border? So sick!

The first day of the swell Johnny Redmond decided to hit up some glassy clean walls at Salt Creek and practice his grab-rail carves on the Airglide surfboard. Pic.Jordan Anast

Johnny again, this time tucking into a solid glassy inside tube on the Airglide. Pic.Jordan Anast

Fresh to the Division 71 team, David Phillips has been on a tear lately with his new D71 Standard 39″ board. How’s this monster air reverse at Honolua Bay this past weekend. No joke.

David Phillips again, this time hucking a massive backflip at a secret spot. A testament to how strong the Standard board is, David Phillips has still not creased his board after doing massive moves like the ones above.

Pro skimboarder Blair Conklin pulling into a sweet looking Laguna barrel on his 5′ Y-Quad this past Friday. Pic.Conklin

Parker Mendenhall was everywhere on this swell, Friday he charged Baja and then Saturday he was charging shorebreak barrels in North Orange County like the one above. Pic.Shane Grace

Kyle Kugel pulling in on a beastly shorebreak slab on the Catch Surf ONE. Pic.Patterson

There was even a few little waves in New York. Check out Justin Schwartz nose riding the Beater at Rockaway Beach. Pic.mjrphoto.net

Divsion 71’s Mike Bain scored some nice pits in Baja too like this one above.

Freeze on New Years

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Jump into the frigid ocean … without a wetsuit?! Are you crazy?
There are plenty of people who will be shrieking and screaming as they rush into the chilly water on the north side of the Huntington Beach Pier at noon on New Years Day, washing off the old and getting a good cleanse for 2012.
Hundreds of people show up on the sand – some wearing wild and wacky costumes – to do the 2012 Surf City Splash, where organizers do a 10-9-8… countdown, and revelers sprint into the water and take a dunk. If you’re super cool you’ll charge it in trunks with your Beater!

Aperture Hustlers (Kyle Ortiz)

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

For today’s blog we decided to give some love to three local junior photographers that help make the daily blog sick by snapping pix of people using Catch Surf gear. All three of these groms are in high school and get some pretty sweet shots. Please check out all the photos below from the three Aperture Hustlers and click the “LIKE” button below the photographers work you like most. The photographer with the most likes by December 27th will get a Catch Surf t-shirt, hat and blog bragging rights. Hahahaha. No matter how the votes go, all these kids are getting insane at photography and we just want to show them some support.

Kyle Ortiz is a student at Aliso Viejo High and when not shredding his Beater or skimboard he usually shooting photos of surfers, skimboarders and bodyboarders. Click the LIKE button below this first post to vote for Kyle’s work.

How’s this glassy afternoon skim shot Kyle captured of Catch Surf team rider Morgan Just.

Shot 1 of a backflip sequence of Division 71’s Cody Cook.

Kyle getting the perfect crisp angle of Cody flipping out.

Look at that style by Cody.

Not only does Kyle shred behind the lens, he also kills it on the Beater. Kyle (in the white jersey) took 5th in our 2nd Annual Battle of the Beater this past summer.

Kyle’s shot of pro skimboarder Blair Conklin with stylish shorebreak floater on the Catch Surf Y-Quad.

Cool sunset pic of D71’s Collin Goddard with the Catch Surf trucker hat.

Aperture Hustlers (Cameron Gundlock)

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Cameron Gundlock aka Gundlock Gold is a student at Dana Hills High and can always be seen early in the morning at Salt Creek with his headphones on shooting all the surfers and bodyboarders from crazy angles including the bushes and up on the hill. Cameron has a good eye for the angles and is honing his picture-taking skills quickly! Click the LIKE button below this post to vote for Cameron.

Cameron capturing Wyatt Blair pulling in on sick looking right with his Division 71 Standard board.

Cameron capturing Division 71 teamrider Cody Cook with a nice looking air reverse. Logo showing nicely too.

A grom with a Catch Surf Y-Quad heading out while a glassy little nug unloads in the background.

Cameron was up at the Wedge a bunch this summer and here’s a pic he captured of D71’s Beans launching a nice superman roll. Look at the birdy flying too.

Such a cool shot of Beater shredder Brian Adams getting too radical on his Original 48 Beater. In fact where’s his board in the pic?

Cameron getting photo-shop crazy.

Frame-grab Friday

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Here’s a few random framegrabs from the last couple days. Yeah the waves weren’t the biggest but still fun! Johnny above with a nice little grab-rail boost and The Pit on his Airglide surfboard.
